One thing I've been most looking forward to is visiting Georgia wineries. Georgia's wine culture is only growing, and having a cabin so close to it all was a huge plus for me when we purchased it. I was built to hang out at a winery on a Saturday after all.
On a Saturday in early March, we took the family over to Fainting Goat Vineyards & Winery in Jasper, Georgia. A scenic 30 minute drive from our cabin in Coosawattee River Resort in Ellijay, it was the perfect mini-get away.
When we got there, parking was super easy and we quickly walked in to be greeted by a sweet team member who knew their menu inside and out. After getting an idea of what we loved, she worked us up the ideal wine flight, and our daughters got Cokes, fruit juice boxes and sweet treats.
We took the flights down a spiral staircase - VERY CAREFULLY - which turns out, there's a way easier way to get to the first floor level, however, we're always really good at taking the path less traveled, ha.
We quickly grabbed a seat overlooking the vineyards with the North Georgia mountains in the distance. It seemed as though we came at just the right time because not 30 minutes later, the entire place was packed and not a seat was to be had.
After finishing their drinks, our girls went to make friends with the fainting goats in their pen, which lines up with the winery. The pen has a fun little playground for the goats, and their names are listed nearby so you can call them over. Little kids at Fainting Goat Vineyard &Winery were loving making friends with them, while also running around and enjoying the grounds.
As for the wines - we loved them. I preferred the dryer varieties, they seemed to pack a real punch and left me wanting more. Sweet wines have never really been my thing unless it's the heat of mid-summer, which of course, in March, it most certainly was not.
They also have quick charcuterie boards and other snack items in their cooler when you walk in, and a sweet little gift shop in the back of their store with wine-themed gifts, local and regional goods and more.
Definitely take a trip out when you're in Ellijay or the North Georgia mountains, it's the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
